The Updater installs SIA Connect system updates. A system update can include the system software, core components, API, operating-system components, and Edge Portal UI.

You can update in two ways:

  • Directly through the UI - The Edge Portal selects a newer compatible release, downloads the package in your browser, uploads it to the gateway, installs it, and waits for the gateway to reconnect.
  • Fully manually - You choose and download a specific .siaup package, upload it to the Edge Portal, review the package preview, and start the installation yourself.

System updates interrupt gateway operation and reboot the unit. Keep the Updater page open until the installation has finished and the gateway has reconnected.

Before you update

  • Make sure you can remain connected to the gateway for the duration of the update.
  • Use an account that is authorized to update the system.
  • Allow time for the download, upload, installation, reboot, and reconnection.
  • Do not power off the gateway while an update is being installed.
  • Export the current SIA Connect configuration before a planned update.

For a direct update, the computer running the browser must be able to reach the SIA Connect update service and the gateway. For a manual update, the browser only needs internet access while you download the package. The downloaded file can then be transferred to a computer that can access the gateway.

Open the Updater

  1. Sign in to the Edge Portal.
  2. Expand Configuration in the sidebar.
  3. Select System.
  4. Scroll to Updater and expand the panel.

The Edge Portal checks the installation type, saved system update tags, current system version, hardware model, system architecture, and available releases.

Understand the available update

When a newer compatible release is available, its update card can show:

  • Release title and description
  • Release date
  • System version
  • Core version
  • Library version
  • API version
  • UI version
  • Change log

The Edge Portal only offers a direct package when it can match the release to the gateway architecture or hardware model. It also ignores versions that are not newer than the currently installed system version.

If no newer eligible version is found, the page displays System is up to date. You can still upload an update package manually.

If a release is listed without a compatible direct-download package, the page displays No compatible automatic package was provided for this unit. Use the manual updater below.

Update directly through the UI

  1. Review the available release information and Change log.
  2. Select Install update automatically.
  3. Select Download and install.
  4. Keep the page open while the update progresses through download, upload, installation, reboot, and reconnection.
  5. When the status is Success, select Done to reload the Edge Portal.

The download takes place in your browser. The Edge Portal then uploads the downloaded package to the gateway and starts installation automatically.

A successful start displays System update [version] downloaded. Installation is starting.

You cannot close the update dialog while an active operation is in progress. If you try to leave or reload the page, the browser can warn you that an update is running.

Download a specific update manually

Use the manual method when you need a specific release, the gateway cannot use the automatic download, or the computer that accesses the gateway does not have internet access.

  1. Open Manual updater installation.
  2. Select Download updater package. The download library opens in a new browser tab.
  3. Find the required system release.
  4. Select the package that matches the gateway hardware model and system architecture.
  5. Download the file with the .siaup extension.
  6. If necessary, transfer the downloaded file to the computer that can access the gateway.

Do not rename another file type to .siaup. Use only an update package supplied for SIA Connect and confirm that it is intended for the target unit.

Upload and install a specific update manually

  1. Return to Configuration > System > Updater.
  2. Expand Manual updater installation.
  3. Select Select update package.
  4. Choose the required .siaup file.
  5. Confirm that the selected filename is shown.
  6. Select Upload and install package.
  7. Wait until the status changes from Uploading to Uploaded.
  8. Review the Change log returned for the uploaded package.
  9. Select Install updates and reboot.
  10. Select Install updates and reboot again.
  11. Keep the page open while the unit installs the package, reboots, and reconnects.
  12. When the status is Success, select Done.

The accepted package type is .siaup. The selected file must be 256 MB or smaller.

Although the first button is named Upload and install package, this step uploads and validates the package first. Installation does not begin until you review the preview and confirm Install updates and reboot.

Cancel a manually uploaded package

You can remove a staged package before installation begins.

  1. Wait until the package status is Uploaded.
  2. Select Cancel.
  3. Wait for the Updater to clear the selected file and package preview.

Cancellation is not available while the package is actively installing, the gateway is rebooting, or the Edge Portal is reconnecting.

Understand system update tags

System update tags control which update channels the Edge Portal includes when it selects an available release.

  • The latest channel is always included, even when the field is empty.
  • Add beta to include releases tagged for beta testing.
  • Add a custom tag when the SIA Connect team provides one for a private or customer-specific release.
  • Separate multiple tags with spaces.
  • Tag matching is not case-sensitive.

The Edge Portal shows a newer release when at least one of its tags matches latest or one of the saved tags, and the release is compatible with the gateway.

An update entry without any release tags is not excluded by the tag filter. Compatibility and version checks still apply.

Add or remove system update tags

  1. Open Configuration > System > Updater.
  2. Find System update tags.
  3. Enter the tags separated by spaces. For example, enter beta customer-test.
  4. Select Save tags or press Enter.
  5. Confirm System update tags saved.
  6. Wait for the available update information to refresh.

To remove a channel, delete its tag and save the field again. Removing beta or a custom tag prevents future releases that only carry that tag from being selected. The latest channel remains included automatically.

Beta releases can contain features and changes that are still being tested. Use beta or custom tags only when you intend to install releases from those channels.

Understand the update progress

Status What it means
Idle No package operation is active.
Uploading The selected package is being transferred to the gateway.
Uploaded The package is staged. Review the preview before starting installation.
Installing The gateway is installing the uploaded package.
Installing in background The update request ended while installation continues on the unit. Keep the page open.
Rebooting The gateway is restarting and the connection can drop.
Reconnecting The Edge Portal is waiting for the gateway to become reachable again.
Success The gateway has reconnected successfully after the update.
Failed The current download, upload, installation, cancellation, or reconnection step did not complete.

A temporary disconnect or an interrupted installation request can be expected when the gateway starts installing in the background. Do not assume that the update failed unless the Updater displays Failed and an error message.

Update a Docker deployment

When SIA Connect itself runs as a Docker deployment, the Updater displays:

System updates are managed outside this interface when SIA is running in Docker.

Update the SIA Connect container image and deployment through the Docker host or orchestration configuration. Show upload UI for testing exposes the manual controls for testing, but it is not the normal update method for a Docker deployment.

System update tags are not displayed for Docker deployments.

Refresh the UI after an update

Selecting Done reloads the Edge Portal after a successful update. If the interface still shows an older version or outdated visual elements:

  1. Select your username in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Refresh cache.
  3. Allow the Edge Portal to clear its cached UI data and reload.

Troubleshoot system updates

Message or symptom What to do
