Restart SIA Connect
Learn the difference between a soft restart and a hard restart, and restart SIA Connect from the Edge Portal.
Use the restart functions when SIA Connect needs to reinitialize its software or reboot the complete gateway. The Edge Portal provides a soft restart and a hard restart.
Understand the difference
| Restart type | What it restarts | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Soft restart | Restarts only the SIA Connect software. The gateway hardware and operating system are not rebooted. | Use this first when the SIA Connect software needs to reinitialize or a software function is not responding normally. |
| Hard restart | Reboots the complete gateway hardware. | Use this when a complete device reboot is required, when prompted by the Edge Portal, or when a soft restart does not resolve the problem. |
A hard restart temporarily interrupts all connections and can take several minutes. Avoid restarting the device while configuration changes, updates, or other important operations are in progress.
Restart from the Overview page
- Open Workspace > Overview.
- Find the Quick Actions panel.
- Select Restart Software for a soft restart, or select Restart Device for a hard restart.
- Select Yes, restart the software or Yes, restart the device.
The Edge Portal displays Software restart started. or Device reboot started. after accepting the request.
Restart from the System page
- Open Configuration > System.
- Expand Restart.
- Select Soft restart or Hard restart.
- Confirm the restart.
During a soft restart, the System page can display SIA Connect is reinitializing, please wait. Wait for the software and portal data to become available again before making further changes.
After a hard restart, the portal temporarily loses its connection to the gateway. Reopen or refresh the portal after the device has completed its reboot.
Troubleshoot a failed restart
- Failed to restart software. - Confirm that the portal can still communicate with the gateway, refresh the page, and try again.
- Failed to restart device. - Check the gateway connection and your permissions, then retry. If the problem continues, review the system logs.
- The portal remains unavailable after a hard restart - Wait several minutes, then check the gateway power, network connection, and current IP address.
